Monday, September 16th, 2013
As history tells us, between the years 1880 and 1914, Athabasca Landing, as the town was then called, became known as the “Gateway to the North,” a jumping off point for the Peace and Athabasca trading rivers flowing to the Arctic.
Athabasca is situated in a valley along Highway 2 and the Athabasca River, with a population of 3000, and home to the Athabasca University, Athabasca Multiplex, Pool, Ball Diamonds, Playgrounds, Tennis Courts, and 3 Public Schools and more. Looking for a town that has it all, and only 1 ½ hours from Edmonton, check this one out. Athabasca is home to a great summer Farmers Markets with locally grown produce, Rodeos, car shows, entertainment and focal point that leads you lakes & Alberta Trails in the area and parts of the northern country side that you only dream of seeing. When you have a free Sunday, take a drive out to this picturesque town, explore the countryside, the lakes and trails, getting lost is not a problem. The friendly residents of the town and country will always lend a helping hand and quide you back to your destination. Of course once they find out you are a visitor, they will regale you with the history, and all this great Northern town and countryside has to offer.
